Susanne Steffes is a senior researcher in ZEW’s Research Department “Market Design” and has been assistant professor of empirical personnel economics at the University of Cologne since May 2016. The focus of her academic research is on personnel economics. She studied economics at the University of Mannheim and received her doctoral degree from the University in Freiburg under the supervision of Professor Bernd Fitzenberger. The focus of her dissertation was on labour economics.

Susanne Steffes’ main research interests are the design of employee-employer relations. In particular she is working on the impact of HR management on internal labour markets and how the allocation of employees to internal job positions can be designed efficiently. A further research interest is the impact of digitisation on organisations, particularly the effect of mobile work and changing requirements of personnel development.
