Inequality and Demography

The Research Area Comprises

  • Gender Inequality
  • Old-Age Poverty
  • Migration and the Welfare State

Within the research area “Inequality and Demography” we analyse gender aspects of inequality and, more broadly, the interplay between inequality and demographic factors such as fertility, migration, and population ageing. We study how financial incentives, expectations, and gender norms contribute to the evolution of gender gaps over the lifecycle. This lifecycle perspective is also essential for our work on old-age poverty and on the fiscal effects of migration. Our work in this research area benefits from strong links to our research on the design and the effects of taxes and transfers in the research area “Distributional Effects of Taxes and Transfers”.
