Measurement of Inequality

The Research Area Comprises

  • Distributional Effects of In-Kind Transfers
  • Regional Inequality
  • Inequality Over the Lifecycle

The research area “Measurement of Inequality” extends the cross-sectional analysis of money incomes, which is the dominant approach in inequality research, in several dimensions: by including in-kind transfers such as education or health services, by analysing regional inequality with respect to public infrastructure, and by adopting a lifecycle perspective. Our analyses on inequality and redistribution over the lifecycle are based both on administrative and on survey data; the latter are combined with our dynamic microsimulation model.
