Households invest less in energy efficiency than would be rational from an economic and ecological perspective. Research on the energy efficiency gap shows that information deficits, incentives, and social influences have a strong impact on household decisions. Research in other areas, such as the financial sector, shows that experts in these fields have a significant influence on the decisions of households they advise.
The project examines the central role of energy experts (chimney sweeps, HVAC installers, energy advisors) as service providers for the heating transition based on a Germany-wide survey including a vignette experiment among energy experts.
