ZEW Wirklich Wirtschaft with Jacob Schildknecht

ZEW economist Jacob Schildknecht on ZEW Wirklich Wirtschaft.

The war in Iran has now been going on for over two months — and since then, fuel prices have risen sharply in Germany as well. As part of the fuel measures package, it was stipulated that, as of April 1, gas stations in Germany are only allowed to raise fuel prices once a day, at exactly 12 noon. Price reductions are possible at any time.

Researchers at ZEW Mannheim and the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE) have taken a closer look at this effect and concluded that margins for gasoline have risen by an average of six cents per liter since the regulation took effect. Co-author Jacob Schildknecht from the ZEW research unit “Digital Economy” discusses the study and its key findings with podcast host Fabian Oppel. The podcast is available on all major podcast platforms, such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Deezer, as well as on the ZEW website.
