ChatGPT reached around 100 million monthly users within just two months. But who actually uses generative AI on a long-term basis in their everyday lives? Which digital habits encourage regular use – and do applications such as ChatGPT replace other services, or do they simply complement them? A new study examines these questions by analysing the digital activities of around 148,000 people in the US. It reveals that usage behaviour prior to first contact with generative AI is a better predictor of subsequent regular use than demographic characteristics.
