Jacob Schildknecht completed his bachelor’s degree in business informatics at Paderborn University. He then earned a master's degree in Applied Data Science from Utrecht University and a second master's degree in Economics, specializing in "Financial Econometrics and Macroeconomics", from Heidelberg University. He has been a researcher in the ZEW Research Unit "Digital Economy" since October 2024 and works at Justus Liebig University Giessen.

His research examines how algorithms and artificial intelligence affect markets, firms and public debate. His methods combine empirical economic research with machine learning and large language models. He also provides science-based policy advice on digital policy.

At ZEW, he also manages the institute's internal AI platform, which offers locally hosted language models and applications built on them for research and administration. He is responsible for its day-to-day operation and contributes to the strategic development of its models, applications and workflows.
