ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach, PhD: "Renewable Energy Tenders Must Be Implemented in a Technologically Neutral Manner"

Dates and News

A sustainable reform of the Renewable Energy Act (Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz, EEG) is necessary, to get control of the costs of the German energy transition.

The Federal Government and Germany's Minister Presidents met on May 31, 2016 to debate the further course of the energy transition. Discussions thereby focused on the reform of the Renewable Energy Act (Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz, EEG). President of the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Prof. Achim Wambach, PhD commented on the reform.

"The costs of the energy transition must be brought under control. It therefore makes sense to coordinate plans for network expansion with the increased use of renewable energies. The planned tenders for renewable energies will only make a substantial impact if they are implemented in a technologically neutral manner."
