Guido Neidhöfer will teach and conduct research on topics such as economic sustainability, inequality, social mobility, as well as education and migration economics.

Dr. Guido Neidhöfer will assume a two-year guest professorship starting February 2024 as part of the German Academic Exchange Service’s (DAAD) Long-Term Lectureship Programme at the renowned Turkish-German University (TDU) in Istanbul. There, he will teach and conduct research at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and the Institute of Social Sciences on topics such as economic sustainability, inequality, social mobility, as well as education and migration economics. At the same time, he will maintain his role as a senior researcher in ZEW’s “Labour Markets and Social Insurance” Unit.

“I am very much looking forward to teaching in the interesting environment of TDU and to explore topics such as economic sustainability and social mobility in a dynamic country like Turkey,” Neidhöfer comments on his DAAD Long-Term Lectureship. The head of the Research Unit, Professor Nicolas Ziebarth, emphasises the synergies that will result from this collaboration: “Congratulations to Guido Neidhöfer on this professorship. He has extensively conducted research on European and South American topics, e.g. social mobility, and has published in top-tier international journals. His scientific network in these regions is equally excellent. Due to the international orientation of our Research Unit, this stay is a great opportunity to connect with the Eurasian region in the future.”

Established in 2008 under a German-Turkish government agreement, TDU stands as a flagship project in German-Turkish higher education cooperation. Officially inaugurated on 29 April 2014 by Federal President Joachim Gauck and Turkish President Abdullah Gül, TDU is a Turkish state university supported financially by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and by the active participation of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). As a unique international higher education collaboration project, TDU holds significant importance for fostering scientific and economic ties between Germany and Turkey, offering courses in both German and English.
