ZEW Open Science Policy

Preamble

ZEW has gained a strong reputation as a non-profit economic research institute both within Germany and abroad for conducting internationally comparative investigations within the European context as well as constructing databases which form an indispensable basis for scientific research activities. Research results are not only shared through scientific exchange but also communicated to private companies, associations and economic policymakers through studies and other publications, the media and educational events. A central strand of ZEW’s mission is the transfer of insights gleaned from scientific research to the arena of politics and public debate.

As a member of the Leibniz Association, ZEW is committed to Open Access and has set itself the objective of making quality-controlled research findings freely accessible to all. In this context, we are pursuing an Open Science Policy that seeks to open up all research data, publications and resources and to make them accessible and reusable. Our policy is based on the basic principles of Open Science – Open Access, Open Data and Open Methods – as well as on national and international guidelines such as the Leibniz Open Science Policy

We promote access to scientific publications by making them available via platforms such as EconStor, RePEc and SSRN, and we ensure that all research data comply with the FAIR Principles. To secure proper documentation and reusability of our datasets, we use the da|ra registration service for social science and economic data which is jointly operated by GESIS and ZBW. The repository Zenodo is used for the storage as well as the exchange of datasets and research software.

All researchers are informed about ZEW's Open Science Policy and undertake to contribute to the success of the policy through their work, for example by complying with the Best Academic Practice Guidelines at ZEW.

ZEW is committed to supporting its researchers in open access publishing, whether through advice, the management of Article Processing Charges (APCs) or by financing the publication. At the same time, we regularly evaluate the impact of our Open Science measures by conducting bibliometric and scientometric analyses in order to continuously measure and further improve the success and social impact of our research.
