The year 2013 was characterised by a sound development but also by major progress at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW). The research institute has continued its positive development. By the end of the year, the number of employees has grown by nine to 191 members of staff, 130 of whom are involved in research. ZEW stood its ground in international competition by generating total revenues of approximately EUR 18.8 million, EUR 8.5 million of which were secured through third-party funding. Most notable in the year under report was the change of presidency at ZEW from Professor Wolfgang Franz to Professor Clemens Fuest.
