Recent statistics show that firms account for a substantial and increasing share of scientific publications. The reasons why firms publish, the context, in which publications are generated, and the effects of publishing on firm performance are however as of yet underexamined. This projects aims to close these research gaps. Methodologically, the project encapsulates the systematic identification of scientific publications by German firms. This will be achieved through comparison of institutional affiliations of authors of scientific publications with a database containing the population of German firms, the Mannheim Enterprise Panel (MUP).
