Gas-Saving Measures in the Energy Crisis

Why Differentiated Feedback on Gas Savings Achieved in Households Is Valuable

The 2022–2023 energy crisis demonstrated how critical conscious gas consumption is for supply security, cost stability and climate protection. How can the adjustment potential of private households be utilised as effectively as possible in periods of high energy prices when individual price incentives are already fully exhausted or price signals are transmitted with delays?

Using a randomised field experiment and survey data, the study shows that behavioural interventions such as regular reminders of individual savings targets and differentiated interim feedback on achieved savings can further enhance individual saving efforts.
