Serena Trucchi, PhD, was a visiting researcher in ZEW’s Research Department “International Finance and Financial Management” from 23 September to 31 October 2019. She is an assistant professor at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy. Her research interests include household consumption and saving, labour supply, ageing, financial literacy and applied microeconomics.

During her stay, Serena Trucchi worked on a project aimed to investigate whether the response of consumption to income risk has an intergenerational component, namely whether income uncertainty of young generations affects consumption of their parents. To this purpose, the analysis exploits a cross-country European longitudinal dataset collecting information about parents and offspring. Results show a significant impact of offspring’s income uncertainty on parental consumption, showing a heterogenous effect across European countries.
