Distributional Effects of Healthcare Spending

Public spending on healthcare makes up a substantial part of government expenditure in developed countries. Even though the gradient between income and measures of health is well known most studies on inequality do not include healthcare spending or do not take differential utilization of healthcare across the income distribution into account. In this project we show for the German statutory health insurance system how inequality measures can be extended by healthcare spending taking into account the actual utilization of the healthcare system.
