    Dr. Simon Reif, health economist and head of the Project Group “Health Care Markets and Health Policy” at ZEW Mannheim, received the award for thought leader of the year 2021 from Handelsblatt and the Boston Consulting Group yesterday in Berlin. He works to boost digitalisation in the health care sector and help policymakers create effective incentives for the population, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

     The theme of this year's award is “Working world of the future”.

    With the research award “Future of the Working World”, the Volksbank Weinheim Stiftung and ZEW Mannheim honour outstanding dissertations and master’s theses in the field of economics. This year, the prize has been awarded for the eighth time following the decision of a seven-member jury. The award for the best dissertation went to Dr. Martin Lange. Ralf Landeck received the award for the best master’s thesis in economics.

    ZEW and Volksbank Weinheim Stiftung award the Research Award to Dr. Steffen Viete.

    The Volksbank Weinheim Stiftung in cooperation with ZEW Mannheim have granted the research award “Zukunft der Arbeitswelt” (“Future World of Work”) for the seventh time. Dr. Steffen Viete received the award for the best doctoral thesis. The prize for the best master’s thesis in economics went to Katia Gallegos Torres. The award was presented at yesterday’s New Year’s reception of the Volksbank Weinheim. Thomas Kohl, director of ZEW and member of the jury that awards the science prize, held the laudatory speech on the two winners.

    Heinz König Young Scholar Award | ZEW Summer Workshop | Award
    ZEW presents Heinz König Young Scholar Award to Christian Ochsner

    The ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim has presented the Heinz König Young Scholar Award for the 21st time. This year, the research award went to Christian Ochsner from CERGE-EI in Prague and the University of Zurich, and Felix Roesel from the ifo Institute in Dresden. The young researchers were awarded the prize by ZEW for their research on populism. With their study, Ochsner and Roesel contribute towards creating a better understanding of the mechanisms that can lead to the success of populist communication.

    The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim recently presented the Heinz König Young Scholar Award for the 20th time. This year the research award went to Michael Stiefel from the University of Zurich. The doctoral student was awarded the prize by ZEW for his excellent investigation into the role of the European Central Bank (ECB) in instilling confidence for government bonds of European countries such as Spain and Italy during the government debt crisis of 2012. Michael Stiefel’s paper constitutes a significant contribution to research on confidence building on the European financial market in times of crisis.

    The Mannheim-based Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) has presented this year’s Heinz König Young Scholar Award to two young researchers. The recipients of the award were Jiekai Zhang from the Centre de Recherche en Économie et en Statistiques (CREST) at the École Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration Économique (ENSAE) ParisTech and Bernhard Kasberger from the University of Vienna. Jiekai Zhang was awarded the prize by ZEW in recognition of her research into the effects of regulated TV advertising for both TV viewers and advertisers while Bernhard Kasberger was recognised for his work on the efficiency of mobile communications markets following frequency auctions.

    The Mannheim Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) has awarded two young researchers with the Heinz König Young Scholar Award. The winners are Nicholas Patrick Frazier of the Rice University in Houston, Texas, and Jan Tilly of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
