ZEW Sponsors’ Association Expands Its Reach

Clemens Schmid Appointed to the Board of the ZEW Sponsors’ Association

The ZEW Sponsors’ Association for Science and Practice strengthens its board: Clemens Schmid, managing director at Roche Deutschland Holding & Roche Diagnostics GmbH, was appointed to the board on 18 October. Schmid succeeds Alexander Moser, board member of Roche Diabetes Care GmbH, who left the board on 17 October. ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach said: “With this decision, health remains a topic in the ZEW Sponsors’ Association. This is also particularly important for us, as we are currently establishing a research unit on health at ZEW. We are very much looking forward to the cooperation.”

Schmid, who himself has an economics background, has been responsible for HR at Roche as Head of People & Culture Germany since May this year. ZEW Managing Director Thomas Kohl said: “It is important for the ZEW Sponsors’ Association to be able to pass on stimuli from the business community to ZEW, and we can best achieve this the more influential company representatives there are on the board.”

The chairman of the ZEW Sponsors’ Association, Dr. Ralph Rheinboldt, added: “With his expertise, Clemens Schmid is a great asset to the work of the board of the Sponsors’ Association. On behalf of my fellow board members, I warmly welcome him to our board.”

With 8,300 employees, Roche is the largest employer in Mannheim and has been a member of the ZEW Sponsors’ Association since 1994. The company researches, develops, produces and distributes pharmaceuticals, diagnostic tests and digital technologies.

The ZEW Sponsors’ Association provides funding for practice-relevant research projects, supports ZEW in organising lecture series with top-level speakers from politics, business and academia, and endows prizes for outstanding scientific and policy advisory work. The association counts 140 large and medium-sized companies as well as private individuals among its members, who, through their commitment, support the presence of a strong economic research institute in Baden-Württemberg.
