Integration of Refugees with Innovative Concept “Come Together”
In an exciting final of Germany’s largest school competition YES! – Young Economic Summit, the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium Frankenthal, mentored by ZEW researchers Katia Gallegos Torres and Paul Berbée of the Research Department “Labour Markets and Human Resources”, managed to secure the third place.
Around sixty teams competed in the 2021 YES! competition and developed solutions to a great variety of topics over the course of the year. Twelve finalists were selected in regional finals before being joined by five teams from Great Britain and the USA in the grand final.
How do we successfully manage to integrate refugees?
Against the backdrop of the global pandemic, the ZEW school team dealt with the question, “New challenges due to Corona and lockdown: How can we strengthen the integration of refugees?” Under the slogan “Come Together”, they developed a box with instructions for joint activities with refugees in school and leisure time to facilitate integration. ZEW congratulates all participants and wishes them great success for their implementation!
The YES! – Young Economic Summit is one of the biggest German school competitions aimed at getting young people to engage with global economic and social issues. The competition is a joint project by the ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics and the Joachim Herz Stiftung, and has been under the patronage of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy since 2015.
