Karla Schneider-Dörken studied English and German language and literature at the Free University of Berlin and Heidelberg University as well as at the University of Surrey in Guildford, UK. While working as a junior consultant at the software company SAS Institute GmbH in Heidelberg, she completed an extra-occupational further training course to become a press officer/PR consultant at the German Public Relations Association e.V., Berlin (DPRG). After several years at SAS Institute GmbH as a communications specialist, she joined ZEW Mannheim in October 2020.

As a consultant for international co-operation and public relations, she is responsible for ZEW's co-operation with schools. This comprises school visits and inquiries to ZEW as well as students’ participation in public events such as “First-Hand Information on Economic Policy”. Her responsibilities also include the coordination of school competitions such as the Germany-wide YES! – Young Economic Solutions challenge and of the StartUp BW Young Talents competition, an initiative of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs. She is also a member of the Internal Communications team at ZEW and coordinates the annual science awards, which are presented by Volksbank Kurpfalz Stiftung in cooperation with ZEW to promote young scientists.
