ZEW to Participate in YES! – Young Economic Solutions Again

For seven years, ZEW has successfully accompanied YES! school teams on their way to developing clever solutions.

Germany’s largest high school competition for economic, ecological and social issues is entering a new round. This year’s kick-off events of YES! – Young Economic Solutions (formerly Young Economic Summit) are about to start. From March to May 2023, researchers from ZEW Mannheim will discuss and develop innovative solutions together with their highly motivated teams.

Highly relevant issues have been brought into the competition: from educational equity in the digital age, financial education for young people and digitalisation of the world of work to apps in healthcare and ways to speed up public construction projects... Who will make it to the next round? The first step is the South-West Regional Final, which will be held at ZEW in Mannheim on 13 July. Here, all participating school teams in the region will vote on the most convincing solutions, which will compete in the grand final in Hamburg in September 2023. The winners of the final will then be honoured by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action in Berlin in the winter.

For seven years, ZEW has successfully accompanied YES! school teams on their way to developing clever solutions. Will the ZEW teams be able to secure a place on the winners’ podium again? Good luck to all involved!

About YES!

YES! – Young Economic Solutions, a joint project by the ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics and the Joachim Herz Stiftung in Hamburg, is one of the biggest German school competitions aimed at getting young people to engage with global economic and social issues. Over the course of a six-month mentoring programme, student teams tackle pressing issues facing future generations. The students come up with their own solutions to global economic, ecological and social problems and present them as part of the YES! – Young Economic Solutions conference to other students. Researchers from various (Leibniz) research institutions support the students by providing their scientific expertise.
