For the third time, professors from the Chinese Master’s programme of International Business (MIB) were visiting ZEW from 12 to 22 August 2019 to participate in the “MIB Faculty Programme”. The advanced training programme is an important component of ZEW's multifaceted cooperation with renowned institutions in China.

The universities are members of the centrally organised Chinese National Master of International Business Education Supervisory Committee, including the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing, and the Fudan University in Shanghai, with whom ZEW has been maintaining a lively exchange for several years.

Advanced training programme offers platform for diverse discussions

Attended by professors from 14 Chinese universities and undertaken in English, the programme relies on four pillars:

  1. the exchange of experience with German researchers, policymakers, and businesses;
  2. the strengthening of inter-cultural expertise as well as organisational skills for presentations and seminars;
  3. the increasing of knowledge about European markets and associated institutions; and
  4. current economic developments in practice via examples of global companies in the region.

A diverse programme informed by current research and practice – at ZEW, the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt, the European Parliament in Strasbourg, and local companies in the region

Some of the skills and knowledge imparted during the programme were made possible thanks to the internal as well as external expertise at ZEW. Interactive workshops organised by experts from the ZEW Service Department’s Knowledge Transfer & Qualification Programme aimed to strengthen soft skills such as inter-cultural competence and presentation techniques. The programme also featured presentations by former ZEW President Professor Wolfgang Franz, who shed light on the role of research in economic policy advising, and Dr. Peter Westerheide, chief economist at BASF and ZEW alumnus, who provided insights into the challenges of his work as part of the world's largest chemical company. A visit to the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Parliament in Strasbourg complemented the programme. The group also received first-hand knowledge about current topics via company visits and a multifaceted cultural event. After two weeks of intensive training, ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach bid the participants farewell in a cordial certificate ceremony.
