He further studies the effectiveness of state aid and EU competition policy, consumer search and pricing in online markets, and the economics of the energy transition and electricity market design. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals including the American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, the Journal of Political Economy: Microeconomics, the Journal of Public Economics, the European Economic Review, and the International Journal of Industrial Organization, among others.

In addition, Sven has extensive experience in policy-relevant research. He has led and worked on research and consulting projects commissioned by institutions such as the European Commission as well as several European ministries and public authorities, and regularly serves as an econometric expert in cartel and competition cases in court proceedings.
