Corporate Taxation and Public Finance

Marcel Olbert is Research Associate at ZEW. He works in close cooperation with the research unit “Corporate Taxation and Public Finance”. Since 2026, Marcel Olbert has held the Chair of Taxation, Accounting, and Finance at the University of Mannheim. He is also the Funding and Academic Director of the Mannheim Center for Corporate Behavior and Regulation Analysis (COBRA).

Previously, he was an assistant professor at the London Business School until January 2026. After earning his master’s degree from the University of Mannheim, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Mannheim and received his PhD in 2020 under the supervision of Professor Christoph Spengel. He was a visiting doctoral student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a visiting professor at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

His research interests focus on the real effects of corporate taxation and disclosure regulation. He examines how multinational businesses respond to incentives that stem from their regulatory and macroeconomic environment.
