“The German Industry Is Well-Advised to Embrace and Help Shape Structural Change”

ZEW President Achim Wambach commenting on the energy transition and structural change on this year's German Industry Day.

Shaping structural change poses a myriad of challenges for the industrial landscape and is the central topic at this year’s Day of German Industry (21 to 23 June 2021). ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach commented on this matter:

“The German industry is facing a decisive decade: the ambitious energy transition will lead to massive changes in production processes, digitalisation will lead to shifts in business models, and international competition is becoming increasingly fierce, partly due to China’s growing influence.

The German industry, with its many world market leaders, is well advised to embrace this structural change and help shape it. German and European policy will play a key role in this: Only if Europe succeeds in achieving its climate targets and at the same time retaining value creation and jobs in industry and industry-related services in Europe, can it also be a role model for other regions in the world in terms of climate policy.”
