From now on ZEW will bear the official name “ZEW – Leibniz-Zentrum für Europäische Wirtschaftsforschung GmbH Mannheim” (ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research). The name change has been approved by ZEW’s shareholder and has become effective with its registration in the Commercial Register as of 1 January 2019. The new name will soon be integrated into all parts of the institute’s public image.

“With the name change, our intention is both to shift the focus on ZEW as a brand and, as a member of the Leibniz Association, to emphasise our close connection to one of the most renowned scientific organisations in Germany by including it in the institute’s name,” explains ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach. The institute’s research and policy advising activities are strongly rooted within the Leibniz Association, which is, for instance, reflected in ZEW’s participation in several Leibniz Research Alliances as well as the launch of two Leibniz ScienceCampi in cooperation with the University of Mannheim: the Leibniz ScienceCampus Mannheim Taxation (MaTax) and the Leibniz ScienceCampus Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation (MaCCI).

ZEW became a member of the scientific organisation in 2005, and has since received excellent ratings in the regular evaluations carried out by the Leibniz Association. ZEW is one of currently 93 independent research institutions that form the Leibniz Association.
