Personnel

In the course of the Supervisory Board meeting of the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) on 11 June 2007, Dr. h.c. Eggert Voscherau, Vice-Chairman of the Executive Board at BASF AG, was elected new Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board. During the same meeting, the Supervisory Board decided to extend the contract of ZEW president Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Wolfgang Franz until June 2011.

Voscherau succeeds Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Strube who left the ZEW Supervisory Board after many years of membership in February 2007. Since January 2003, Voscherau has been a member of the ZEW’s Scientific Advisory Board continuously accompanying and enriching the research at the institute with his constructive suggestions. In March 2007, he was appointed to join the ZEW Supervisory Board.

Franz has been ZEW president since 1997. Under the scientific supervision of Wolfgang Franz and Thomas Kohl, the Director of Business and Administration, ZEW was able to establish itself as one of the most renowned German economic research institutes. During his term of office, the total of employees approximately doubled to 152 and the budget rose from about 7.8 million euros to 14.4 million euros. Considering the fact that the ZEW will be evaluated by the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Scientific Community in 2009, the extension of his contract is an important step setting the course for ZEW.
