Dr. Holger Bonin Appointed New Head of the Department "Labour Markets, Human Resources and Social Policy" at ZEW

As of October 1, 2007, Dr. Holger Bonin (39) takes up his position as head of the department “Labour Markets, Human Resources and Social Policy” at the Centre for European Economic Research GmbH (ZEW) in Mannheim.This research department is the second largest at ZEW with its 23 researchers. Bonin’s work is empirical and strongly practice-oriented; his research mainly focuses on the low-pay sector, the flexibility of wages and employment, the economic consequences of an ageing society and migration as well as on the employers’ willingness to take risks.

Up to now, Bonin has been employed at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn – most recently as Deputy Director of the programme area "Evaluation of Labor Market Policies".  From 1996 to 1999 he was research fellow at the University of Freiburg where he received a doctoral degree in economics for his work on the theory and practice of generational accounting. Before that, he received a doctoral degree in economics at the University in Freiburg for his work on the theory and practice of generational accounting.

Bonin regularly publishes articles in scientific journals such as Applied Economics Letter, Economic Journal, Economica, Economics Letters, Labor Economics, Finanzarchiv, Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance, Investigaciones Economicas and Spanish Economic Review. Furthermore, he is author of several books and numerous contributions to anthologies.
