Press Release: Dr. Georg Müller from MVV Energie AG Elected New Chair of ZEW Sponsors’ Association

At its most recent general assembly, the Sponsors’ Association for Science and Practice at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim elected Dr. Georg Müller, chief executive at MVV Energie AG, as its new chair. Newly admitted to the association’s board were Dr. Ralph Rheinboldt, board member at Fuchs Petrolub SE, and Manfred Bauer, board member at MLP SE.

Former and new Chairman of the Sponsors' Association for Science and Practice

At the general assembly, the ZEW Sponsors’ Association also bid farewell to Dr. Alexander Selent, former vice-chair of the executive board of Fuchs Petrolub AG, who retired from his position as chair of the Sponsors’ Association. ZEW Director Thomas Kohl expressed his thanks to Selent for supporting ZEW’s work with outstanding dedication: “Over the past twelve years in which you have served as a board member and chairman you have significantly shaped the work carried out by the Sponsors’ Association. Before assuming the role of chair, you supported the work of the Sponsor’s Association first as treasurer, managing the association’s finances, and then as vice-chair of the board. Thanks to your dedication and commitment, the Sponsors’ Association has been able to continually attract new members and find a member of the association each year willing to act as a sponsor for ZEW’s ‘Heinz König Young Scholar Award’. On behalf of the entire ZEW staff, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for all you have done.”

Müller, Rheinboldt and Bauer will be joining the other existing members on the Sponsors’ Association for Science and Practice at the Centre for European Economic Research, Claudia Diem, board member of the Bank of Baden-Württemberg AG (BW-Bank), and Dr. Ralf Krieger, member of the board of management at Freudenberg SE. At the general assembly, the members of the board confirmed Luka Mucic, member of the Global Managing Board at SAP SE, as vice-chair of the association.

The ZEW Sponsors’ Association for Science and Practice was established by business representatives to support ZEW’s scientific work. The members of this association, some 160 firms and personalities, ensure a constant exchange between the domains of research and entrepreneurial practice. Since its foundation in 1993, the Sponsors’ Association has been funding research projects and supporting the organisation of lecture series with high-profile figures from the realms of politics, economics, academia and society at ZEW.
