Thomas Kohl is ZEW's Director of Business and Administration. Furthermore, he is one of the four directors of the Leibniz ScienceCampi "Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation" (MaCCI) and "MannheimTaxation" (MaTax). Thomas Kohl works in several national and international organisations and committees. He is a guest professor at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing, China. Furthermore, he is a member of several appointment committees and selection committees for awards, such as the research award "Zukunft der Arbeitswelt" (The Future Working World) granted by Volksbank Weinheim Stiftung and ZEW. In addition, he is a member of the board of trustees of the European School Mannheim Foundation.
Before he joined ZEW, Thomas Kohl worked as administrative manager for the German Foundation for International Development (DSE), now GIZ, from 1987 to 1992, right after completing his studies in public administration with the German degree Dipl.-Verwaltungswirt. His areas of responsibility at DSE were human resource management, finance, organisation, and IT. Furthermore, he co-ordinated the development of the DSE branch office in Magdeburg after the German reunification. When he started working with ZEW in 1992, Thomas Kohl was initially ZEW's head of personnel administration and subsequently became head of the Service Department “General Services”. In September 1997 Thomas Kohl was granted general commercial power of attorney. In April 2001, he was appointed Deputy Director of Business and Administration. Since August 2004, Thomas Kohl has been ZEW’s Director of Business and Administration.
