MaCCI Annual Conference 2024

Conference

The Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation (MaCCI), a joint initiative between ZEW Mannheim and the University of Mannheim, is pleased to announce its 2024 Annual Conference. The conference will take place on 14 and 15 March in Mannheim, Germany. The aim of the conference is to provide a platform for exchange and discussion on topics in competition- and innovation-related research between academic researchers and practitioners in public authorities, legal counsel, and economic consultancies. Different from previous years, the programme will start with a get-together and a light dinner on 13 March and presentations in the morning of 14 March.

The conference will comprise plenary as well as parallel sessions. The plenary sessions will consist of two keynote lectures while the parallel sessions will provide an excellent opportunity to learn more on ongoing research in all fields of competition law and economics. The parallel sessions will include papers on business strategy related to competition, the intersection between competition and innovation, and regulated industries. Theoretical, empirical, as well as case-oriented papers are welcome. In particular, we invite legal scholars to submit papers focusing on EU competition or comparative competition law. The 2024 MaCCI Annual Conference will be held in person.

All individual submissions must include the following information: an abstract of up to 200 words, the author’s full name and affiliation, as well as contact details. Please submit only full papers (incomplete drafts are welcome). We also encourage submissions of full sessions. Any such proposal must include a short session abstract and the papers (or extended abstracts thereof) to be presented in the session itself. Typically, a session comprises three papers and all presenters should have confirmed their willingness to participate. All proposals must be written in English and shall be submitted to the organising committee via MacciAnnual2024@zew.de as a PDF file no later than 1 December 2023. Participants interested in discussing a paper without presenting should send a message to the organising committee (MacciAnnual2024@zew.de).

Authors of accepted papers will be notified no later than 31 December 2023. Presenters must register by 16 February 2024 and may be asked to discuss another paper. Young researchers are particularly encouraged to submit papers.
