#ZEWPodcast (Concise) EARIE Exclusive: Why Steelworks Can´t Simply Go Green

The steel industry is one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise. In the United States, a lower-emission steelmaking technology has spread widely over the past four decades – yet established steelworks rarely adopted it. Instead, new plants opened while many existing sites closed. How can a technology transform an industry without being adopted at existing plants, and what can this history tell us about future industrial transitions? A new study examines every US steel plant to find out.

In the new episode of the ZEW podcast “Wirklich Wirtschaft” Pascal Ausäderer talks about this issue with Eunseong Park, researcher in the ZEW’s Research Unit “Environmental and Climate Economics”.
