Katrin Müller will take over responsibility for ZEW Mannheim’s Communications unit from 15 March 2025. By appointing her, the institute gains a communicator who has been working in the academic arena for over ten years. Before taking on her new position at ZEW, Katrin Müller was head of the university communication units at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), Switzerland and at Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany.

In addition to science communication, her previous work focused on supporting communication in transformation processes, developing internal communication formats, and designing and implementing crisis communication. Her area of responsibility at ZEW will include developing the institute’s internal and external communication strategy further with a view to promoting its professional and international public image.

“We are pleased to have gained an experienced leader and science communicator in Katrin Müller. She has a broad background, international experience and an excellent network. This makes her ideally suited to communicate our research and policy advice with a holistic approach and focus on the target groups. Katrin Müller will play a key role in the strategic development of ZEW Mannheim’s communication,” says Claudia von Schuttenbach, managing director of ZEW.

“I’m very much looking forward to this new field of activity and to supporting ZEW’s excellent and highly relevant research and advisory activities together with the motivated and innovative communications team. It will be exciting to make the impact of these activities on politics and society, as well as the researchers behind them, even more visible. In doing so, we can build on the successes that have already been achieved. I’m convinced that my experience will enable me to provide new impetus for the institute’s cross-media science communication and further advance the international marketing of its research findings. I’m looking forward to working with the team,” adds Katrin Müller.”
