Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics

Professor Philipp Böing is a senior researcher in ZEW’s Research Unit “Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics” and teaches at Goethe University Frankfurt. His research focuses on innovation incentives and the impact of innovation on firm performance and economic growth. His work is characterized by the use of unique micro data, econometric analysis and empirical advances. Böing is particularly interested in policy evaluation, patent indicators, productivity, and import competition. 

Combined with a strong empirical focus on China and its global rise, he maintains a critical understanding of data generating processes and institutions in China. He serves on the board of directors of the China Institute at Goethe University, is a member of the European Central Bank's China Expert Network, an adjunct fellow with Tsinghua University, and a faculty scholar of the Asia Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association. Previously, Böing was an assistant professor at Peking University and a Taiwan Fellow at Academia Sinica. He has advised the World Bank, the OECD, and the German Commission of Experts for Research and Innovation, among others.
