The employees of the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) showed their support for the organisation xundlachen e.V. – die klinikclowns im rhein-neckar-kreis by means of a fundraising initiative. The organisation's mission is to bring laughter, in particular, to young and elderly patients in hospitals and nursing homes.

The donation of 445 euros was handed over at ZEW to the eleven currently active hospital clowns on 17 February 2016. The money had been raised by the 190 ZEW employees between December 2015 and January 2016.

The donation is now used for the organisation's work, which is to help children, elderly people and their relatives in the recovery process by lifting the patients' moods with the positive power of humour.

ZEW is regularly involved in charitable projects. This has been the first time the research institute has donated to the organisation "xundlachen". From 2012 to 2014, ZEW supported the Wespin-Stift children's care facility in Mannheim.
