ZEW Sponsors’ Association Changes Name

Dates and News

At its extraordinary general meeting on 5 February 2020, the ZEW Sponsors’ Association, “Förderkreis Wissenschaft und Praxis am Zentrum für Europäische Wirtschaftsforschung e.V.”, decided to change its name. The association, which is dedicated to promoting the dialogue between science and practice, is now called “ZEW – Förderkreis Wissenschaft und Praxis e.V.”.

The board of the Sponsors’ Association has further informed the members present that the funding of two projects of ZEW Mannheim from association funds has been approved, as already decided at the general meeting in December 2019. One project aims at developing a pension information platform and is led by Professor Tabea Bucher-Koenen, head of the Research Department “International Finance and Financial Management”. The other project is conducted by Dr. Sarra Ben Yahmed from the “Labour Markets and Human Resources” Research Department and investigates the effects on promotion opportunities, salary and family planning of women in highly qualified jobs when they reduce their working hours for family reasons.

ZEW Mannheim’s wide range of interesting events can only be realised thanks to the support of the ZEW Sponsors’ Association. With that said, the associations’ board was able to report on a number of recent successful events, including with Peter Altmaier, German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, with the chairman of the German Council of Economic Experts, Professor Christoph M. Schmidt, as well as with Professor Sabina Jeschke, member of the Management Board for Digitalization and Technology at Deutsche Bahn AG. The well-attended New Year’s Lecture by ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach was also supported by the Sponsors’ Association.
