Meta Study on the Opportunities and Challenges of Digitalisation in Baden-Württemberg

Research

In a meta study, the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) has been investigating the “Opportunities and Challenges of Digitalisation in Baden-Württemberg”. In this study, special attention is devoted to five topics: namely, economics, mobility, education and training, healthcare, and e-government. Furthermore, the study also addresses cross-cutting topics such as research, development and innovation, digital infrastructure, sustainability, and cyber security. The meta study was conducted on behalf of the State of Baden-Württemberg and served as input for the newly developed digitalisation strategy of the Government of Baden-Württemberg.

“Developing an own digitalisation strategy will allow the state government to respond to state-specific characteristics, such as the strong manufacturing industry in Baden-Württemberg. Such a strategy could also accelerate the implementation of individual measures in, for example, education or health policy,” explains Professor Irene Bertschek, head of the ZEW Research Department “Digital Economy” and one of the authors of the study.
