Corporate Taxation and Public Finance
David Gstrein has been a researcher in ZEW's Research Unit “Corporate Taxation and Public Finance” since September 2026. His research focuses on taxation, in particular corporate taxation and firm behaviour, as well as on real estate markets. He studies how firms respond to changes in taxation and regulation and how these responses shape labour, capital and housing markets. Methodologically, his work combines quasi-experimental research designs based on administrative and large-scale microdata with economic models to quantify incidence, welfare and efficiency effects.
He obtained his Bachelor's degree in economics and management from the University of Innsbruck in 2019 and completed his Master's degree in Quantitative Economics at LMU Munich in 2021. He received his PhD in economics from LMU Munich in 2026. From 2021 to 2026, he also worked as a Junior Economist at the ifo Institute in Munich. During his studies he completed study and research stays at Tilburg University and at Stanford University.
