Company Determinants of IT Outsourcing

Company Determinants of IT Outsourcing

The aim of the project was to define the operational determinants of IT outsourcing, using data of the ZEW ICT-survey and adequate statistically-econometric methods.Central to this analysis was the question of whether there is a positive or a negative correlation between the equipment of companies with regard to information and communication technologies (ICT) and ICT-staffing on the one hand, and the decision to outsource IT-related services on the other hand. A positive correlation would allude to complementarities, i.e. a company would be able to deploy the outsourced IT-tasks itself, but uses IT-outsourcing as a mean of concentrating on its core competencies or higher-value tasks. A negative correlation means that a firm buys IT-tasks via outsourcing which it cannot conduct by itself, and, consequently, has to rely on other companies’ know-how. Detailed project results will soon appear here.
