Professional Training at ZEW – Seminar Programme 2006/2007 Published

The new seminar programme of the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Mannheim, has been published. From September 2006 to June 2007, the research institute offers a series of expert seminars on the following topics:

• methodological competence (e.g. "Competently Interpreting Macroeconomic Data" , "Access to Legal Acts and Documents of the EU – How to Find and Understand EU Sources”)
• econometrics
• financial market analysis and management (e.g. "Corporate Valuation – Methods and Application")
• corporate management and organisation (e.g. "Competitive Analysis – Competitive Analysis Systems Oriented towards Early Identification", "General Law on Equal Treatment – New Tasks and Challenges in Human Resource Management",
• taxes, accounting and public finance (e.g. "Substantiated Argumentation Concerning Current Financial Policy Issues", "Transfer Prices I – Basics of Business and Tax Law", "IFRS Training" in cooperation with Ernst & Young)

For the first time, very successful ZEW Expert Seminars are also hosted abroad. Starting September 2006, the series of seminars on financial econometrics will be offered at the Zurich financial centre. The "ZEW Qualification Programme Zurich" conveys methodical competences and consists of the modules "Basic Techniques of Financial Econometrics" and “Modelling Interest Rates and Share Prices”.

ZEW is the only economic research institute in Germany offering educational events in form of scientifically-based expert seminars and firm-specific advanced training since its foundation. “The expert seminars provide important input to the qualification of executives in business and administration,” says ZEW President Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Wolfgang Franz. He also highlights that investment in staff training increases corporate competitiveness.

ZEW Expert Seminars are high-quality educational events combining recent research findings and practical experience. The speakers of these seminars are ZEW researchers and experts from the regarded field. They convey methodical competences in economics and give examples of how to use them in professional everyday life. The expert seminars offer the participants a forum to discuss the practical implementation of the acquired knowledge with experts, get in contact with colleagues from other organisations and exchange experiences.
