Dr. Friedrich Heinemann - New Head of ZEW Research Department

With effect from February 21, 2005, Dr. Friedrich Heinemann (40) was appointed head of the Research Department “Corporate Taxation and Public Finance” at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim.

Since the beginning of 2005, Heinemann has been in charge of the Research Department on a temporary basis after the previous head, Professor Thiess Büttner, had accepted a chair in economics with a focus on finance at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich. In addition to his position as head of the Research Department “Corporate Taxation and Public Finance”, Heinemann is also responsible for the coordination of the ZEW network “Growth and Business Cycle Analysis”.

Heinemann studied economics and history at the University of Münster, at the London School of Economics as well as at the University of Mannheim. After graduating in economics (Diplom-Volkswirt) at the University of Mannheim, he became a Research Fellow at ZEW in 1991, where he worked for the Research Department “International Finance and Financial Management”. In 1995, he obtained a doctor’s degree at the University of Mannheim. Currently, Heinemann’s main research interests are fiscal policy in the EU as well as determinants of structural reforms and of economic growth. Heinemann is executive board member of the working group “European Integration” in Berlin as well as member of the Academic Advisory Board at the Institute for European Politics (IEP) in Berlin.
