Research

The seventh issue of the ZEW Stock Option Watch deals with the costs of stock option programmes and their balance sheet presentation. The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim publishes the Stock Option Watch as a supplement to ZEWnews.

The first article written by Erik Lüders (Dresdner Bank and ZEW) and Michael Schröder (ZEW) provides a brief overview of accounting transparency among the thirty DAX-listed companies. In the second article, Swen Bernitz (FRICON GmbH) elaborates on the accounting regulations of stock option programmes in accordance with the International Accounting Standards (IFRS 2). His article refers to companies represented in the DAX, MDAX and TecDAX. The costs of stock option programmes among the fifty EuroStoxx-listed companies are examined in the third article by Jörg Engelbergs (Boston Consulting) and Zacharias Sautner (University of Amsterdam). At last, the fourth article by Boyce Watkins (Syracuse University, New York) addresses the impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act on the development and costs of stock option programmes in the United States.
