Fairly Allocating Public Goods
Fair, Fast and Transparent Allocation of Daycare Places via KitaMatch
In most German municipalities, the allocation of available places in childcare centres and daycare services is a source of dissatisfaction among parents and providers alike. This is primarily due to the absence of a standardised and transparent allocation procedure across childcare providers. In addition, parents are often required to behave strategically, for example in deciding whether and when to apply to or accept an offer from a particular daycare centre.
The KitaMatch system aligns parents’ childcare preferences with available places in daycare centres. Based on predefined allocation criteria, parents and providers are matched. The approach offers advantages in terms of fairness, efficiency and transparency.
Reducing Food Waste
The aim of TafelConnect is to make the donation of large quantities of food simpler, more efficient and more transparent. To this end, a distribution mechanism for donated and often time-sensitive goods is being developed. This digital system streamlines and optimises donation distribution processes between donors, Tafel Deutschland and regional logistics structures down to the local level.
At the same time, the project seeks to increase the volume of bulk donations and reduce the share of rejected food donations. In addition, it aims to improve and automate data collection as well as donation statistics.
