Measurement of the Digitalisation of the German Economy

Measurement of the Digitalisation of the German Economy

The purpose of the project is to measure the digitalisation of the German economy and to track its development over time. The results will serve as an evidence-based framework for decision makers in policy and business. The project comprises several topics. It analyses the economic role of the ICT sector as supplier of digital technologies and digital solutions. Further analyses will focus on how these technologies and solutions are used in the economy as a whole thereby taking into account complementary factors and differentiating with respect to sectors and regions. A special topic of the project will be artificial intelligence as important enabler of future economic developments. Finally, the productivity effects of digitalisation will be investigated at the micro and the macro-level.  Current trends will be captured by case studies conducted on a yearly basis. The project work will be accompanied by the organisation of workshops with stakeholders and the communication of results to the lay public.
