ZEW’s Research Work Attracts Researchers from China

Research

The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim is again welcoming a Humboldt research fellow. Over a one-year research period in Mannheim, Dr. Ling Yang will investigate regional impacts of CO2 reduction strategies in China. Dr. Ling Yang is a researcher at Jiaotong University of Xi'an, one of the most prestigious universities in China. During her stay in Mannheim she will collaborate closely with Prof. Andreas Löschel, head of the Research Department "Environmental and Resource Economics, Environmental Management" at ZEW.

The highly sought-after fellowships of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation grant financial support to outstanding scientists who wish to complete a research stay in Germany. During their stay, the Humboldt fellows have the chance to carry out a research project they have selected themselves in collaboration with an academic host. Dr. Ling is already the third Humboldt research fellow in three years to investigate topics in the areas of environmental, energy and climate economics at ZEW.

Frequent visits of researchers and delegations from academic institutions to ZEW confirm the institute’s successful scientific exchange with China in recent years. Dr. Weiqi Tang, researcher at the "Center for Energy Economics and Strategy Studies" of Fudan University in Shanghai, has been working at ZEW since the beginning of September 2013 on a twelve-month scholarship from the Leibniz Association and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). His research work focuses on a long-term decarbonisation strategy for China.

On October 14, 2013, ZEW will welcome Fudan University’s president Prof. Yang Yu-liang in Mannheim to explore options to intensify scientific co-operation. An outcome of the existing co-operation is the China Economic Panel (CEP), a periodical survey of economic and financial dataon China by ZEW and Fudan University launched in July 2013.
