The association\\\'s Chairwoman Monika Schnitzer welcomes the participants of the VfS-Annual Conference 2016.

Having contributed a total of 18 presentations, the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) played an important role at the Annual Conference of the Verein für Socialpolitik (VfS), held at the University of Augsburg, where the Mannheim institute also hosted an information stand. From September 4 to 7, 2016, about 800 researchers exchanged ideas on the core topic "Demographic Change" at the economic association's international conference.

The presentation of recent research findings earned ZEW a key role in the VfS Annual Conference: The researchers discussed, among other things, whether offshoring to Eastern Europe and China affects European labour markets, whether user feedback in social media increases a company's innovative capability, as well as the influence of municipal politics on municipal business taxes. The conference, which included core presentations, a panel discussion and around 160 open scientific sessions, offered a platform for discussing the effects of demographic change from an economic viewpoint.

In addition to the presentations, ZEW also hosted an own information stand at the congress, which offered VfS participants the opportunity to catch up on research, publications, events, and career possibilities at ZEW. The Mannheim research institute will once again be taking part in next year's annual conference on "Alternative Structures for Money and Banking" to be held at the University of Vienna. In 2017, ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach will take over position as Chairman of the VfS for two years.
