ZEW and CAFS Explore Opportunities for Cooperation
Dates and NewsFirst Meeting Lays the Foundation for Cooperation Between ZEW and the Chinese Academy of Fiscal Sciences
On 11 June, high-ranking representatives of ZEW Mannheim and the Chinese Academy of Fiscal Sciences (CAFS) met virtually to explore opportunities for joint projects. The meeting served as an opportunity to get to know one another and to prepare further cooperation in research and policy advice, as well as a visit by the Chinese delegation to Mannheim.
The institutions were represented by their respective heads: Professor Achim Wambach, PhD, and Claudia von Schuttenbach, President and Managing Director of ZEW, as well as Professor Yang Zhiyong, President of CAFS. They presented the research profiles and key areas of work of their respective institutes.
High-Level Exchange
The subsequent expert exchange involved numerous high-ranking researchers from ZEW, the University of Mannheim, and CAFS:
Professor Bettina Peters is Deputy Head of ZEW’s “Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics” Research Unit and a member of the recently established China Commission of the German Bundestag. Professor Philipp Böing conducts research in the same unit and is spokesperson of the Leibniz Research Network China. Professor Holger Stichnoth heads ZEW’s “Inequality and Public Policy” Research Unit and Li Yang, PhD, is a Senior Researcher in the unit and conducts research on inequality in China.
Professor Eckhard Janeba from the University of Mannheim is a Research Associate at ZEW and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Professor Philipp Dörrenberg from the University of Mannheim is also a Research Associate at ZEW and spokesperson of the Leibniz ScienceCampus MannheimTaxation.
The CAFS participants in the exchange included: Dr. Cheng Yu, Head of the Department of Academic Organisation; Dr. Shi Yinghua, Director of the Research Centre for Macroeconomics; Dr. Zhao Fuchang, Vice-Dean of the Graduate School and Acting Head of the Research Centre for Finance and Governance; Dr. Liang Ji, Director of the Research Centre for Public Revenue; Dr. Xu Wen, Director of the Research Centre for Social Development; Dr. Chen Shaoqiang, Director of the Research Centre for Resources, Environment and Ecological Civilisation; and Dr. Yu Zhenli, Deputy Head of the Department of Scientific Organisation.
