Humboldt Research Fellows Visit ZEW

Guests at ZEW

Within the framework of a study tour, a group of 22 research fellows from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) visited ZEW. In addition to promoting international research cooperation, the AvH also provides opportunities for highly-qualified researchers from different disciplines to undertake extended research stays in Germany. Through programme features like study tours, the research fellowship aims to provide scientists with insights into the cultural, political and economic diversity of Germany.

During their visit to ZEW, Gunter Grittmann, head of the Service Department “Press Relations and Editing” welcomed the AvH delegation. After a short overview of the organisational structure and the research work at the institute, Dr. Nicolas Fugger, deputy head of the ZEW Research Group “Market Design”, shed light on this relatively new topic of research. Drawing on a number of examples from projects carried by the Research Group, he offered insights into the research activities and approaches used in market design and answered the questions of the Humboldt Fellows.

The AvH delegation concluded the visit with a presentation held by the Humboldt Research Fellow Jie Wu, PhD from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, who is currently conducting a research stay in ZEW’s Research Department “Environmental and Resource Economic, Environmental Management”. In her presentation she gave a first-hand account of the daily life and work at ZEW, shed light on her research work and gave insights into living in the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region, including sights and leisure activities. After the presentation, the researchers eagerly seized the opportunity to ask Jie Wu questions.
