CH Indicator of Economic Sentiment

Economic expectations for Switzerland declined slightly by 1.6 points in September 2012. Thus, the ZEW-CS-Indicator of Economic Sentiment has hardly changed and hovers at the minus 34.9 points mark. The ZEW-CS Indicator is calculated monthly by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in cooperation with Credit Suisse (CS). The indicator reflects the expectations of the surveyed financial market experts regarding the economic development in Switzerland on a six-month time horizon.

All in all, the share of the surveyed experts expecting the economic development in Switzerland to change on a six- month time frame has augmented.  However, not even one in ten experts (9.3 per cent) anticipates an improvement of the economic situation. A large group of 44.2 per cent of the analysts predicts the economic situation to worsen within the next six months.

Financial analysts’ assessment of the current economic environment in Switzerland worsened somewhat in September. The respective indicator drops by 6.4 points to a level of 4.6 points. This reflects the majority’s view to evaluate the current economic situation as “normal”. The share of analysts regarding the current economic environment as “good” decreased by 6.1 percentage points in September.
