Ninth Eberbacher Cloister Conversations on Economics of the Transformation of the Energy System

Conference

The decentralisation of power production is progressing as evident by the rapid deployment of renewable energy technologies. Households play an important role. One aspect is the adjustment and increasing flexibility of household energy demand to a varying supply of fluctuating renewable energy. However, households are no longer only energy consurmer. "Prosumer" generate electricity themselves by technologies, such as mini-cogeneration units, solar thermal or solar photovoltaic systems, and satisfy part of their energy demand. What are the determinants to become a "Prosumer"? What kind of technological, economic and regulatory developments are looming? What is the willingness to pay for "green" electricity? And what are the implications of changes in the household sector for the whole energy system?
