Dates and News

The visitors got an insight on theory and practice of economic research at ZEW.

On 19 October 2018, a group of students studying federal defence administration at the Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences visited ZEW. The university of applied sciences, which is located in Mannheim, aims to prepare the future administration professionals for their work in defence administrations on behalf of the federal government.

During the visit, Daniela Heimberger, head of the Service Department “International Cooperation and Public Relations”, welcomed the students and gave them an overview of the structure, activities and the research areas of ZEW. The administration students, who were accompanied by their professors Michael Vierling and Matthias Wiechers, were particularly interested in issues related to the field of digitalisation.

After that, Sebastian Blesse, researcher in the ZEW Research Department “Corporate Taxation and Public Finance” shed light on the effects of municipal reforms and provided insight into his current research. Amongst other things, Blesse is currently working on a ZEW study which investigates in which ways mergers carried out in German municipalities can have an effect on cost savings and personnel reductions in local administration on the one hand, and on voter participation and election results on the other hand. After the presentations, the students had the opportunity to speak to ZEW researchers to learn more about the work conducted at the institute.
